Senseless Policies and Other Updates…
May 21, 2008My office-issued laptop conked out on me two Fridays ago. It wouldn’t boot and I feared that it may have been the hard drive that decided to die, and all my files both personal and official are all gone.
Anyway, I brought it to the nearest HP service center and thankfully, it wasn’t the hard drive that had a problem (I’m still a lucky bastard afterall). Hehehe.
The laptop was a compaq presario, amd turion core duo. Now AMD processesors are known to perform miserably in tropical countries. It has a tendency to overheat and this characteristic was noticeable when I use the laptop at home, as the keyboard would get much too warm for comfort. You can’t even place it comfortably on your lap as it will burn your leg. Anyway, my theory was that the cooling fan conked out and it cooked something inside, possibly the motherboard or the processesor.
One week later, the laptop is still there, they are testing it still and it looks like it was the motherboard indeed that conked out.
Now here’s the problem. Their estimation of cost for the part is PHP30,000. The cost of Ompong (what I named my pc) was 55,000 when it was bought last year. My question is WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND, would have it repaired when you can BUY A BRAND NEW LAPTOP for 30K??? Maybe, that’s the whole point, to make you buy a new laptop. But with so many brands out there, they can never be sure that the unit that will be bought will be their brand.
Wow, talk about pricing policies that defy logic. I’m not about to spend that much for repairs. In fact, I’m not keen to have it repaired at all. Looks like Ompong will become my external hard drive and I’ll just go back to Tushy as my pc. Not as high tech but still will serve it’s purpose (doesn’t take much to surf through porn anyway. Hahaha, kidding of course……or am I).
Anyway, am still waiting for the official quote. So we shall see what happens next.

Got to meet Grace last Saturday. I must say that I wasn’t expecting who I met to be who she was. First and foremost, my neck was stiff cause I had to look up when I talk to her. Hahahaha! Just kidding Gratsi. It was a pleasure to meet you. Remember what we talked about, carry them with you as you go through life. I apologize for being too talkative ha? It’s just the nature of the beast. Hehehehe.

I finally got to pick up the stuff that I requested from Cocoy the Cat over a cup of coffee. She went home to Sorsogon a couple of weeks ago and I requested for some Pili delicacies from her province. Yipeeee. Thanks Coy! You just earned yourself a new umbrella for christmas. Hahahaha. Just kidding!

Last Sunday, I had to bring the kids to Shangri-La cause ex could not pick them up at home. So being the ever understanding, patient guy, I figured what the hell.
Anyway, Igor fell asleep while we were at Starbucks where I decided to get a cup of coffee. Ex asked a favor that I buy her one as well. She was cradling Igor in her arms and whipped out her wallet. Using one hand, she put the wallet on the table, opened it and took a 100 peso bill. Anyway, it was then that I noticed there were pictures on there and lo and behold, mine was displayed in it along with the kids.
I quickly looked away and pretended that I didn’t see it. Sheeesh, I guess I was right all along, she is hoping to reconcile. Sad, cause there really is absolutely nothing for me to offer her now. It all drained away one and half years ago.
