Professor in the house
March 22, 2007I think I'm gonna be sick. Nope, not from liquor, nope, not from drugs and nope, definitely not because I am oversexed (sheesh, far, far from it). Stress can be a real trigger for ailments. Sheesh, came from this meeting yesterday and damn was it a looooong one! Not that I resented it, it was just too much to tackle in one sitting. Life is hard when you have a startup. You work with a limited budget, hence you have got to overextend yourself for the company's sake.
Whoever said that life would be much easier if you have your own business, clearly does not know what the hell he/she is talking about. Although, I have tried setting up businesses before (unfortunately, my virus charm had absolutely no effect and had to fold up) and never is it easier. NEVER.
You see when you own a business, everything, as in everything is your problem. Of course, you've gotta make sure that you have enough money for wages. What happens when you can't deliver on paydays? Well, let's just say that Salem's Witch hunts won't be that far off in your future. Wow, I can imagine it all now. Me burning in the stake, trying very hard to cry buckets and buckets of tears, in hopes of dousing the flames. "How do you like that now Sir?" cackled one of the project managers. "Not so tough now are ya?" Screamed a disgruntled software engineer. Shivers running down my spine. Well, hopefully, it won't happen. Maybe, I should treat them all out to a nice cozy lunch at McDonald's. Nah, they'd probably spit at me.
But the truth is, when you are a businessman, it becomes a 24/7 job. All you think about are contract revisions, payment collections, project deadlines, customer satisfaction, cost cutting measures, utilities payments, revenue targets, board pressure, yada, yada, yada.
No wonder people are telling me that I look older than I actually am. Well, the business did not do that actually, it was a slight personal problem that I have been carrying for the last two years. Now that it is over, I can work with more focus.
I guess the secret really, to be able to achieve peace of mind, is to be able to get people who you know will treat the business as their own yet won't cost too much. Hahahaha! Once you find such a person, call me. Of course, if the business does well, rewards are in order. Tama na siguro isang bag ng hopia. LOL. But seriously, when things go the right way, you will have to find ways to reward your loyal, hardworking employees, which of course might affect your bottomline but what the hell, you would never have made it that far if not for them as well.
Oh well, rambling as usual. So boring you might say. But buried in this entry are a couple of jewels that maybe you just might find useful.

Thank you very much Carey. To tell you truthfully, my shares in this company are in the minority. Hence, the big boys get to bully me into working harder! Hehehe.
Check out your latest entry, I have left a comment there.
Why am I not part of this company? I work so hard like right now… Silly me!
You’re on the right track. How many times do I have to tell you that you are destined for greatness. Soon you’ll be infecting the entire world! Remember our weekend…W! hehehe
Wow, thanks man. Deep inside, I know that there is this special purpose for me being in this world. Although, I continue to search for what that might be, there are just times that you want to throw your shoes off and veg out.
Well, that is if my kids will allow me to. Cause when they are at home, all you get to hear is “I’m hungry”, “I want to play” “Let’s play with Igor”, or “let’s go to the mall”. Or you lay down with the infant and fall asleep together, and next thing you know these tiny fists are pounding on your chest demanding (yes demanding) for milk or attention.
Sigh, the world would really be a desolate place if not for those two.
But yes, I still remember our weekend W! Let me just finish all these things I need to finish and deal with the holy week then we can start. Syempre you will clean your soul first before dirtying it again. EGAD! How hypocritical! Hahahaha.

hang on… you’re almost there.
Posted by carey at March 22, 2007, 10:57 pmi couldn’t agree more, it’s actually much more difficult to be in business, that’s why most people would prefer the security of their 8-5 jobs, rather than taking the risk of owning a business. kinda strange, i just posted something about the painful birthing process i’m going through these days because i chose to be in business than being employed.
